Flying taxi companies start buying up London rooftops

London’s rooftop spaces are being bought up to provide landing space for the first generation of flying taxis.

The Telegraph reports that infrastructure company Skyports has already arranged leases on 15 rooftops in the capital as the transport industry prepares for autonomous flying vehicles.

Airborne transport

The move follows recent announcements from Uber suggesting that the airborne transport could be just around the corner.

Analysts believe that London will be one of the leading global centres for autonomous flying vehicles. According to the Telegraph, major London landowners are already in talks to lease rooftop space to flying taxi companies.

Drone delivery

The space will also be important for drone delivery systems such as those currently being pioneered by Amazon.

Uber has said that it expects to launch commercial airborne journeys by 2023.
