The John Lewis Christmas ad has become a fixture of the festive season, with loveable dragon Excitable Edgar winning our hearts this year.

But what about the music in these mini films? Well a new Pay Per Play report by internet comparison site Broadband Deals has revealed the most streamed John Lewis ad Christmas songs on Spotify and how much money the artists make just by featuring in the ads.

According to the interactive report artists get paid £0.0034 for every stream on Spotify.

It also revealed that Lily Allen’s “Somewhere only we know” was the most streamed John Lewis Christmas ad song with 189.6 million plays to date – generating the artist £647,311.68 through Spotify alone.

Her single featured in the 2013 Christmas ad, which cost the brand £6 million to make, according to the BBC.

It noted that Lily Allen revealed she was paid just £8,000 for her collaboration, meaning she made more money through Spotify plays as a result of featuring and promoting the single.

Broadband Deals added that the 2018 John Lewis ad song by Elton John was not included as it wasn’t created specifically for the advert.

The 2019 John Lewis Christmas ad has landed with Bastille’s Dan Smith featuring as the key song with ‘can’t fight this feeling’.

The song has just launched on Spotify and is now racking up plays, according to Broadband Deals.
